Warming up the conversion engine…

Convert another file

100% private — your PDF is processed on your device and never uploaded to any server.

Works well with files up to ~50 MB or 300 pages (depending on your device's memory).

How it works

Three steps, all on your own computer or phone.

1

Choose your PDF

Drag the file in or pick it from your device. It is not sent anywhere.

2

It runs in your browser

A PDF reading engine (pdf.js) loads once per session and extracts the text locally.

3

Download your Word file

You get a real .docx with editable text, ready to open in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice.

Convert PDF to Word free, with nothing to install

Turning a PDF into a Word file is one of the most common tasks there is: editing a contract, tweaking a CV, reusing the text of a report. Most online converters ask you to create an account, cap how many files you can convert per month or — the delicate part — upload your document to an external server before handing it back to you converted.

This converter works differently: reading the PDF and building the Word (.docx) file happen entirely inside your browser, in JavaScript running on your own device. Neither the contents of your PDF nor the resulting Word file ever pass through our servers. It is the same reason the tool keeps working offline once the page has loaded.

The process rebuilds the PDF's text into paragraphs and pages inside the Word document. For letters, reports, articles and CVs — documents with flowing text — the result is very faithful and fully editable. For complex layouts, such as magazines with columns or forms with elaborate tables, the result is a useful approximation of the content rather than an exact replica of the design: no browser-only tool can guarantee that, and we would rather tell you plainly than let you find out the hard way.

When is Word the right target, and when is ODT?

If you are going to keep editing the document in Microsoft Word or Google Docs, .docx is the most compatible format. If your usual editor is LibreOffice, or you prefer an open format, you may want to convert the PDF to ODT instead. Both start from the same text extracted from the PDF.

Frequently asked questions

Are my files uploaded to a server?

No. The whole conversion happens inside your browser, using JavaScript that runs on your own computer or phone. The file never leaves your device, and never passes through our servers or any external service.

Is the resulting Word file editable?

Yes, the .docx you download contains real, selectable text, not a picture of the PDF. You can edit it in Word, Google Docs or LibreOffice like any other document.

Is it free and sign-up free?

Yes, conversions are free and there is no account to create and nothing to install.

Does it work with scanned PDFs (photos)?

Only if the PDF has selectable text. If the PDF is a photo or a scan without OCR, there is no text to extract and the Word file will come out empty for that page; in that case you need to run the document through an OCR tool first.

Will the result look identical to the original PDF?

We don't promise an exact replica. The engine rebuilds paragraphs and page breaks from the text and its position in the PDF, so columns, complex tables and the exact placement of images are not preserved pixel for pixel. For plain-text documents the result is very faithful.

What is the maximum PDF size?

It works well up to around 50 MB or 300 pages. Beyond that it depends on the memory available on your device, since the whole process happens locally.
